Ghosts of a Green Sahara
A study of historical desertification in Algeria.
Eight thousand years ago, a fertile land supporting human, animal, and plant life was transformed into a wholly mineral landscape of dust, rock, and sand. Ghosts of a Green Sahara examines the traces of this once-green land through the geological, geographical, and historical phenomena that remain in the Sahara Desert today. These photographs allude to imperceptible forces that exist outside of human experience: suggesting that change is constant, whether we can perceive it or not.
