Editorial Writing

I write about travel, lifestyle and the natural world for publications such as SUITCASE Magazine, Bradt Travel Club, and Fujilove Magazine. My words can accompany my images or be commissioned separately. I have also written in-house copy and content for brands such as Great Rail Journeys and Welcome Cottages.

Editorial writing is a new passion for me –

  • I have no wifi, no TV, and no distractions. A Cottontail Rabbit sits by me as I drink my iced coffee in the morning. I can feel my mind un-muddling.

    SILENCE & SAGEBRUSH
ALONE IN A CABIN IN THE NEVADA WILDERNESS

  • Weather-beaten prayer flags lie scattered around the cave entrance while a solar-powered speaker in the shape of a flower plays the Buddha’s mantra on a loop through a tinny speaker. A lone wooden chair sits inside a wooden frame with torn plastic sheeting nailed to it. I find it hard to imagine a less likely place to discover nirvana.

    TIBET’S FORGOTTEN KINGDOM
    Bradt Travel Club Magazine

  • We ride through a wind-scoured land of rock and gravel, then on through sensual waves of sand. Atop a camel, I am seduced by the romance of desert travel, surrounded by thrilling emptiness, the hypnotic pad of my Camel's feet, and the vast Dutch blue sky.

    CROSSING THE SUDAN’S BAYUDA DESERT
    SUITCASE Magazine

  • The branches where Robin Hood and his Merry Men once dozed are now weary and braced by nine steel struts. Beneath me, its roots pass under the couple taking selfies to the father and son enjoying a mock sword fight.

Nice things people have said about me

  • "I commissioned a Sudan photo diary from Nick for the Summer 2020 print issue of SUITCASE Magazine, and asked him to write some accompanying words. It's not always a guarantee that a photographer will be as comfortable writing, but I was really impressed by Nick's words – he gave an atmospheric, characterful and thoughtful vision of the Bayuda desert."

    Olivia Squire, Editor

  • “Nick's brain doesn't work the same way as most brains. Nick's brain questions things and challenges the norm. His brain pushes boundaries and doesn't accept mediocrity. Quite simply, Nick has the most creative brain I've ever come across”
